CAMS believe that Community health is broader and encompasses the entire gamut of community-organized efforts for maintaining, protecting and improving the health of the people. CAMS adopts a synergistic approach by relating health to determinants of good health viz. segments of nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking water. The Focus has been to educate the communities and improve the availability of and access to quality health care by people, especially for those residing in rural areas, the poor, women and children through educational plays.
Mental Health Promotion
Mental health for each person is affected by individual factors and experiences, social interaction, societal structures and resources and cultural values. It is influenced by experiences in everyday life, in families and schools, on streets and at work. The mental health of each person in turn affects life in each of these domains and hence the health of a community or population. CAMS have been focused in promoting community participation in mental health services development and to stimulate efforts towards self help in the community.
Advocating the rights of people with mental disorders has been the active efforts of CAMS. They have been educating individuals and their families about mental health issues and leadership, helping individuals and their families to form their own groups and contribute to the development, planning, evaluation, and monitoring of mental health services. Other advocacy actions include awareness raising, dissemination of information and education and training.
